Ministry Willing To Accommodate Siti Nurhaliza
March 18, 2005 19:51 PM
KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) — Information Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir said his ministry was willing to come to the aid of popular singer Siti Nurhaliza Taruddin, who had complained of difficulty in getting sponsors for her overseas concert.
“The ministry will always cooperate and help artistes who face problems if they want to perform abroad,” he said when commenting on Siti’s plight in not being able to get corporate sponsorships.
The lass will be making her debut overseas performance, “Siti Nurhaliza in Concert” organised by Putrade Property Management Sdn Bhd with the cooperation of Siti Nurhaliza Productions at the Royal Albert Hall in London, next April 1.
Abdul Kadir, earlier, had held a meeting with the working committee of the Singers, Musicians and Composers Association of Malaysia (Papita) at his office here Friday. Also present at the meeting were Information Ministry Secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Arshad Hashim and Papita president, Daud Wahid.
“The Information Ministry is available, the Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry can also help any artiste. If they have problems they can inform us,” said Abdul Kadir.
Putrade Property Management Ahmad Fadzli Yaakob said the willingness of the Information Minister to help was very much appreciated and meant a lot to them (Siti Nurhaliza and the organisers).
He hoped with the announcement, other parties including corporations, would come forward and help make the concert, which would be held in less than 10 days, a success.
Siti Nurhaliza, in her press conference Thursday, had complained that sponsorship from corporations had been hard to come, despite the concert being held in London was aimed at promoting the local music industry.
She is also scheduled to appear on BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) at the end of the month to promote the concert.
