THEY came, they saw and they made merry.

More than 2,000 guests, including the Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah and the Sultan of Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin and his consort, Sultanah Nur Zahirah, joined in the celebration to mark the union of Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin and Datuk Khalid Mohamad Jiwa.

The celebrity wedding had all the trappings of an exclusive gala event ? beautiful people, live television coverage and entertainment by some of the top artistes in Malaysia and Indonesia.

In short, it was a wedding celebration like never before. From traditional attire, like the kebaya and baju melayu, to glamorous gowns and tuxedoes, guests graced the event in their finest.

Other prominent guests included the Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and his consort, Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Iskandar, and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Also present were Malacca Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Khalil Yaakob and wife Toh Puan Zarina Kassim, Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhamad Salahuddin Abang Barieng and his wife, Toh Puan Norkiah.

Also at the event were former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.

Siti?s friends from the music industry, including Anita Sarawak and husband Mahathir Abdullah, Erra Fazira, Umie Aida, Adibah Nor, Sheila Majid and Uji Rashid added sparkle to one of the most talked about events this year.

“Queen of Glam” Anita was seen in a Kapas Couture two-piece outfit while Erra looked demure in a three-piece kebaya with rainbow-coloured motif.

Traditional outfits appeared to be the order of the day as most female celebrities opted for the kebaya. Spotted were singer Deja Moss in a Rizalman creation, actress-cum-compere Ogy Ahmad Daud and actress Vanida Imran in a kebaya labuh by Margaret McCallum, the designer of costumes for the Red Kebaya film.

Male guests donning the baju melayu included film producer Datuk Yusof Haslam, actor Zamarul Hisham, Senator Datuk Jins Shamsudin and members of nasyid group Hijjaz.

And no celebrity wedding would be complete without the glitzy performances by top artistes.

Among those who took to the stage were Indonesian singer Kris Dayanti, who is a close friend of Siti, Hetty Koes Endang, hip-hop/rap duo Too Phat, Nash, Ezlynn, Ziana Zain and Kat (Siti?s protege from the TV3 talent show Mentor).

All performances were backed by live musicians led by veteran composer/producer S. Atan.

Former TV3 newscaster Ishak Nengah and Zakiah Anas, who hosts the station?s crime-documentary 999, were the emcees.
